Rock stars, museums, galleries and senators have collected Steven Spann’s work. Originally from Texas, he denied a lucrative financial planning career to pursue painting full time. Spann’s signature large canvases, bold colors, dynamic brush strokes and passionate energy are evident at first sight. Within the movement and flow of his works one can sense structure and logic. At times intellect and emotion are vying for dominance on the canvas. Perhaps this can be attributed to his being completely ambidextrous. Many paintings are done left hand or right hand exclusive but the majority of his work is compositionally structured with the right hand, while the overlying color and depth is applied with the left. One can be confident that there is a profound message embedded within the labyrinth of color and form.
